Sand Art XR – Extended Reality in Sand Animation
HANNA BESSON - SAND FAIRY FROM RUEGEN
A Unique Live Show for SailGP Germany 2026
Sand Art XR is a newly developed, innovative performance format that merges traditional sand art with modern extended reality.
The artist draws live with Baltic sand directly on a high-resolution LED or TV screen, while animated backgrounds—waves, light reflections, wind patterns, and maritime effects—appear underneath in real time.
This creates a captivating blend of analogue craftsmanship and digital magic, perfectly suited for major sporting events and television productions.

Sailing is speed, precision, wind, and water – and these are exactly the elements we translate into dynamic sand animations..

The show will be created specifically for SailGP Germany in Sassnitz/Rügen and will combine:
– the atmosphere of the Baltic Sea,
– iconic motifs from Rügen and Sassnitz, – the flags and teams of all participating nations (13 countries in SailGP 2026).

Show-Highlights
1. Mixed Reality Background
Animated waves, lighthouse beams, spray effects, wind lines and color movements support every sand gesture and create an immersive visual depth.
2. Nations Segment: International Teams
All participating SailGP nations appear as minimalist sand-painted flags that dynamically transform into catamarans.
Teams can be visually introduced with personalized sand portraits of key athletes, created in advance for seamless integration into the live performance.
If desired, these portraits can be crafted using original Baltic Sea sand to add a regional artistic signature.
Dynamic transformations:
Flag → Catamaran → Athletes → Island of Rügen

3. Rügen & Sassnitz in Focus
– Chalk cliffs (UNESCO)
– Sassnitz lighthouse
– Harbour, breakwater, Baltic Sea
– The outline of the island becomes the final symbol of the show.
4. Goosebumps Soundtrack
The show will be precisely synchronized to Hans Zimmer’s F1 Hybrid Version
featuring fast transformation moments, dynamic cuts, and powerful emotional peaks.

After the invitation, she was contacted again by a German producer and invited to collaborate on several further creative projects.
